Major 47% of manufacturing industry expect big data analytics to have a major impact on company performance making it core to the future of digital factories. 36% industry players expect mobile technologies and applications to improve their company's financial performance today and in the future. 49% expect advanced analytics to reduce operational costs and utilize assets efficiently. Online surveys were sent to corporate members of SCM World and MESA International, with respondents from professional services and software sectors excluded from the analysis. Manufacturing & Production (22%), IT Technology (21%), Operations and Engineering (14% each) and General Management (8%) are the most common job functions of survey respondents. Respondents were distributed across Asia & Australia (22%), Europe, Middle East & Africa (40%) and North & South America (38%). Mobile technologies and applications (75%), big data analytics (68%) and advanced robotics (64%) are considered the three most disruptive technologies by manufacturers today. SCM World notes that mobile technologies and applications are being progressively adopted across the plant floor, profoundly changing the way manufacturing operations are measured, controlled and supervised. The survey also found manufacturers globally have high expectations for big data analytics providing greater insights into how manufacturing operations can be improved. Cloud computing received a low ranking as a disruptive technology as manufacturers increasingly see it as an enabling technology.

Many of the traditional business intelligence systems in use today are geared toward answering the question, "what happened?" Finding out what happened gives you a summary of individual facts that you can compare manually, assuming you can easily "see" all the correlations. But to gain deeper insight, you really need to discover the relationships that exist between key data, so you can proactively answer the question, "why did this happen?" With deeper insight into your information, you can look beyond the obvious circumstances to understand how to shift your strategy and increase your performance. The next-generation information analytics platform, HP IDOL 10 (Intelligent Data Operating Layer) helps you access, understand, and derive insights from virtually any data, including audio, video, images, social media, email, and web content, as well as structured data such as customer transaction logs. Offering far more than simple search, IDOL empowers you to use all critical information for maximum benefit through more than 500 advanced functions, including sentiment analysis, entity extraction, and speech-to-text conversion. IDOL adapts to incoming data by probing and exploring information to discover the unknown - the questions you did not know to ask. Virtually all business areas and industries, whether management, sales, marketing, legal, customer service, R&D, IT, or HR, have applied and benefitted from IDOL's adaptive analytics to make smart, data-driven decisions that transform business processes and elevate customer engagement

The amount of data stored by companies is growing at a rate of 40-60% per year Around 85% of the information today is unstructured Only 3% unstructured information is provided with metadata 69% of the information in enterprises doesn't have business, legal regulatory value. Some of the other areas of current and future market analysis are as shown in the table below
Areas Current Market Future Market
Delivery Automated Testing is currently delivered 50% by onshore resources and 50% by Indian personnel (both onsite or from India) Delivery continues to move from onshore to offshore and from Indian onsite to Indian offshore
Virtual Test Environments Usage of virtual environments raises number of questions including when and how to use  virtual environments Clients and vendors share best practices on when and how to use virtual environments. For example; whether to use virtual environments for functional or non-functional testing
Management of Test Data Test data remains an issue for clients, whether it is for improving the relevance of test data, because of regulation that requires keeping data access onshore, or maintain master data management Several activities, whether new offering or service components will allow you to:
  • Migrate and adapt production data into testing data
  • Mask data to perform testing data offshore while complying with security requirements
  • Homogenize and test data received from different databases
IT Infrastructure Testing Most of the software test effort is currently taking place at the functional execution level, focusing first on testing productivity and further efficiencies through automation tools and mainly through reusable artifacts Clients and vendors expand their focus to both application testing and IT production environments to detect defects appearing once the application is hosted in production environment.
